THE MAIN ATTRIBUTES OF LEADERSHIP

The world had just entered a new era of leader-follower relationships, one that very clearly calls for new leaders and a new brand of leadership in business and industry.

Those who belong to the old school of leadership by force must understand the new brand of leadership (cooperation) or be relegated to the ranks of the followers.

There is no other way out for them.

The relationship of employer and employee, or leader and follower, in the future will be one of mutual cooperation, based on an equitable distribution of corporate profits.

important factors of leadership

In the future, the relationship between employer and employee will be more like a partnership than it has been in the past.

The following are important factors of leadership:-

   1. INDEFENDABLE COURAGE.

Based on self-knowledge and the profession.  No follower wants to be dominated by a leader who lacks self-confidence and courage.

No intelligent follower will be dominated by such a leader for long.

   2. SELF-CONTROL.

The man who cannot control himself can never control others.  His self-control sets a powerful example for his followers, which the most intelligent will imitate.

   3. AN ACTIVE SENSE OF JUSTICE.

Without a sense of fairness and justice, no leader can command and retain the respect of his followers.

   4. DEFINITION OF DECISION.

The man who wavers in his decisions shows that he is not sure of himself.  He cannot lead others successfully.

   5. DEFINITION OF PLANS.

The successful leader must plan his work and work his plan.  A leader that moves randomly, without concrete and precise plans, is comparable to a ship without a rudder.  She will sooner or later land on the rocks.

   6. THE HABIT OF MORE THAN PAYING.

One of the punishments of leadership is the need for the will on the part of the leader to do more than he demands of his followers.

   7. A PLEASANT PERSONALITY.

No careless and careless person can become an effective leader.  Leadership demands respect.

Followers will not respect a leader who does not score high on all of the agreeable personality factors.

   8. SYMPATHY AND UNDERSTANDING.

The successful leader must sympathize with his followers.  Also, he must understand them and their problems.

   9. MASTERY OF DETAIL.

Successful leadership requires mastery of the details of the leader's position.

   10. ASSUMPTION OF FULL RESPONSIBILITY AGREEMENT.

The successful leader must be willing to take responsibility for the mistakes and shortcomings of his followers.  If he tries to discharge this responsibility, he will not remain the leader.

If one of his followers is wrong and incompetent, the leader must consider that he is the one who has failed.

   11. COOPERATION.

The successful leader must understand and apply the principle of cooperative effort and be able to inspire followers to do the same.

Leadership requires POWER, and power requires COOPERATION.

There are two forms of leadership.  The first, and by far the most effective, is LEADERSHIP BY CONSENT and with the sympathy of followers.

The second is LEADERSHIP BY FORCE, without the consent and sympathy of the followers.

History is replete with evidence that leadership by force cannot last.  The fall and disappearance of "dictators" and kings is significant.  This means that people will not follow forced leadership indefinitely.
